Another Friday, another talk about Payday 2 and the skills redesign changes. I have a treat for you this time, though. Well... a "treat" at any rate. I got invited to the Overkill Twitch stream along with two other people to discuss the new changes with two of the game's developers, ask questions and kinda' sorta' grill them about some of the dumber design decisions the game has been stuck with for years. I'm actually going to cut this post short and just direct you to the Stream. I spent three literal hours talking about Payday 2 today. I can do without more of it

Well, another Friday another Skill Tree release for the new system, for the last time. We finally got to see the Ghost skill tree, and it's actually not that bad. It has a skill tree for pistols, a skill tree for melee and a tree for survival type skills, which is where all of those went. There isn't much in there that I really want, but some of the cooler skills got made quite a bit cheaper, so that's nice. We're finally able to calculate skill build costs in the new theoretical system, and I'm running somewhat short - too much stuff that I want to have, you see
Other than that, it's another Payday 2 event. To be honest, I don't know if there's any point in scheduling those here. We've developed something of a small group of regular participants who no longer even look at the event listings. At this point, I suspect literally nobody reads these Which is fine - the events seem to work on their own by this point.
Yup, another event. No new DLC this week, but we got to see another proposed redesigned skill tree - the Ghost this time around. I'm a bit tired at 5 AM so here's the short version of it. The new Ghost has a skill tree for stealth where most if not all of the stealth skills are, a skill tree for dodge + mobility + concealment and a skill tree for silencers. Some of the skills themselves are... Weird, shall we say, but I rather like the basic structure so far. In fact, I'm starting to see how my old Brute build can be remade in the new system, bigger and badder (hopefully).
We'll have the full picture next Friday, then Beta at some point hereafter. Considering how many of the new skill trees are full of placeholder skills, it may be a while yet before that time.
Yeah, the event posting is late, sorry. I got lazy and fell asleep before I could post it yesterday, plus it doesn't matter either way. Still, we got some exciting news today! The new Hardcore Henry heists are out, and they're actually pretty good. I found a stealth heist I actually enjoy and would play by choice! Cats and dogs, living together! So yes, one of them is a stealthy raid on a train depot to steal an EMP bomb from Murkywater. It's tense, but it's not all about sitting on your hands waiting. Cool! The other heist is about using the EMP bomb to raid a secret Russian science lab making super soldiers using the EMP bomb. And yes, we're in Russia where DC cops don't have authority, so we fight a whole lot of brand new enemies. Well, reskins of old enemies, but it's still nevertheless pretty cool. I'm quite excited for these heists.
Additionally, we got news on the new Technician skill tree revamp, and it's... Crazy. Crazy good, I should say. There's a subtree for Sentries which allows you to have up to 6 of the damn things, potentially pick them up and move them, waste less ammo on them, etc. There's a tree for explosives, drills and other breaching tools which seems like it'll be quite useful. There's also my favourite - a tree for LMGs and other auto weapons. It gives faster reloads, armour penetration and more damage on bodyshot hits. Holy frikkin' hell! I'm in love! That's not out yet, though, but I can't wait to try it.
Well, we got a surprise this Thursday - a new DLC, and a free one this time. It's a collaboration between Payday 2 and the Hardcore Henry movie, which I hadn't heard about but now really want to see. We're not getting the protagonist who seems to be a mute badass action hero we only see in first person (so he's probably Gordon Freeman), but instead get "Jimmy" - an absolutely INSANE and hilarious asshole whom I don't know much about. He comes with dual SMGs (if you have Akimbo) and dual knives and probably a dual personality, and a new Perk Deck that I suspect Eagle might like.
At some point down the line we'll get a couple of Hardcore Henry Heists (say that three times fast) that we don't know much about. We'll be going to Russia, though - that much we know. There's also a massive, sweeping skill tree redesign on the horizon that we're learning about very very slowly, as well as an upcoming Beta. As for right NOW, though, there really isn't much. We have a new character who sounds oddly like Jim Sterling, a bunch of new weapons and a curious Perk Deck.
Well, another Friday another Payday 2 event. Sooner or later I'll start calling them <insert title here>, but we're a ways off from that. There isn't much going on on the Payday 2 front. There's talk of a MASSIVE large-scale skill tree revamp which I'm not too keen on, hearing what's being said, but that's months away. Beyond that, the game's still a ton of fun and I'd like to play some more of it with you fine folks. So, feel free to join me for another round, because being an evil bastard can be fun once a week.
Speaking of being an evil bastard, I also want to host a Gremlins, Inc. event at some point, but that's a story for another time.
I'm sick as a dog and just woke up, so please forgive what is surely going to be a laconic event post. I'm running out of ideas for what to say every week. We do have something to talk about this week, though, sort of. There's been a minor tweak to Perk Decks which is likely only going to impact NT (which is good news, because it means people's nerf-mongering is being persistently ignored) and a new Open Beta, with a promise for a Skill Tree rebalance at some point. Which is good, because there are so many junk skills in those trees it's not even funny. We don't know what that'll entail, of course, but fingers crossed it'll be good.
In any event, Saturday's coming and I'd like to play some Payday 2. Would you?
Another Friday, another Saturday event announcement. I should probably announce these earlier in the week, but I have a sneaking suspicion it doesn't really matter if I announce them at all any more. In either case, Payday 2 is still fun and I'd still like to play some of it. What about you, folks? I'm hoping we can get Eagle and NT, but can we have a fourth person for a change?
I keep hoping for Truss or Marqaha one of these days, since I've played Payday with both of you guys and it was a ton of fun. Be nice to have a full team again.
I know nobody reads these, but I like to put in some amount of filler text to at least give the impression I'm putting effort into it. Realistically speaking, this is basically "just another Payday 2 event" that'll be me, Eagle and NT if we're lucky and he doesn't have to sit on somebody's dog that day, but hey - I'm not complaining Payday 2 is still plenty fun, especially with the Wolf Pack DLC. Used to be I'd dread playing heists without anything to cut with my secondary SAW because I'd never use the secondary weapon I packed with me, but my shotgun grenade launcher from that pack's been pretty good at reminding me.
Payday 2 is at the point where it has so many guns and heists and variables that it's actually pretty hard to turn it into a grind, especially with one or two sessions a week. We can always rotate content so it feels like "Oh, we haven't done that in a while." Which is an issue for our regulars, sure. I kind of wish we could get some more people, though. I miss Truss, for example. Dude, I'm not sure why you stopped coming to the events, but we miss you and wish we could have you back.
In either case - Payday 2 event, just like every other week
No, I don't think that tile gets any better if you know the context behind it. I've been trying to develop mods for XCOM 2, which is based in the Unreal Engine 3, meaning I'm dealing with UnrealScript. This was apparently designed by someone who hates programmers and wants us to suffer the tyranny of inanimate objects. I've been doing this for a week now, and ever solution reveals a new problem of its own. So... I'd like to shoot some people to blow off some steam. In a game, obviously! Give me some credit!
So, what do you say? Shall we do some Payday 2 this coming Saturday (aka tomorrow)? I've been pretty excited to take my pump action grenade launcher out for a spin and I'd love to have some company. I wish there was some kind of Payday 2 news I could use to pad out this post, but there really isn't. Another safe got release which I'm not going to buy because I don't feel like gambling with my money on lockbox nonsense. There's a pretty cool skin for the KSP in there which I'll keep an eye out for in the Steam Market. It's rare, though, so I doubt that'll happen. Stupid lockboxes!
And yeah, I promise we'll run something other than Counterfeit this time!
