Sonja Lyubomirsky, PhD

Distinguished Professor of Psychology, University of California, Riverside | BetterUp Science Board Member

Sonja Lyubomirsky is a Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of California, Riverside and leading researcher on happiness, well-being, and positive psychology. She has authored numerous research papers and books, including bestsellers "The How of Happiness” and “The Myths of Happiness” which have been translated into 39 languages. 

Dr. Lyubomirsky earned her undergraduate degree from Harvard University and her Ph.D. in social/personality psychology from Stanford University. She went on to complete a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles. 

Her research on the possibility of lastingly increasing happiness via gratitude, kindness, and connection interventions has received many accolades, including an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Basel (awarded Fall 2021), and the Diener Award for Outstanding Midcareer Contributions in Personality Psychology. 

She’s an active speaker and has given talks at various conferences and organizations, including Google, TEDx, and the World Congress on Positive Psychology. Her passion is sharing her knowledge and expertise with the public and helping people lead happier, more fulfilling lives.
